President of the Agbekoya Reformed Society, Kunle Oshodi, has stated that traditional powers associated with witchcraft beliefs still exist but are no longer used recklessly as they were in the past.
Speaking during an interview with PUNCH on Monday, May 18, 2026, Oshodi said changing times and modern legal systems have influenced how such powers are perceived and applied.
Reflecting on Agbekoya’s historical role in defending Yorubaland from invaders, Oshodi recalled a recent video he received involving a man who was taken to court over allegations of witchcraft.
According to him, the man allegedly caused honeybees to attack people present at the court, forcing those at the scene to flee.
He said,
“Not long ago, someone sent me a video of a man who was taken to court over allegations of witchcraft. It is not that such powers no longer exist, but they cannot be used recklessly as in the past. They wanted to sentence the man, but he reportedly caused honeybees to attack those present, and people fled.”…….See More
