Veteran Yoruba Nollywood actress Adenike Sherifat Ayilara has shared an emotional account of a past relationship that left her heartbroken, revealing how a pregnancy changed the course of her life after she walked away from an abusive marriage.
The actress made the disclosure during a recent appearance on Talk to B, a programme hosted by Biola Adebayo, where she spoke candidly about her personal struggles, relationships, and the challenges she faced behind the spotlight.
Ayilara explained that the relationship began shortly after she separated from her former husband due to repeated domestic violence. Seeking emotional support during a difficult period, she became close to a young spiritual man who regularly prayed for her. According to her, the man was already married but their friendship eventually developed into a romantic relationship.
She revealed that the affair lasted only about two months before she realized she was pregnant. At first unaware of her condition, Ayilara said she later confirmed the pregnancy and informed the man, hoping for reassurance and commitment. Instead, she was met with disappointment.
“I Got Pregnant for a Married Man, But When I Told Him He Said He Can’t Marry a Second Wife,” she recounted during the interview, describing the moment she understood that the relationship would not progress further.
The actress also reflected on the painful experiences that led her into the relationship. She disclosed that her previous marriage had been marked by severe abuse, which worsened after years of childlessness. After eight years without a child, she finally conceived, but the violence allegedly continued throughout the pregnancy.
