According to a report by Punch Newspaper on Saturday, May 9, 2026, Wunmi, widow of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has accused her father-in-law, Joseph Aloba, of attempting to deprive her of properties and benefits allegedly left behind by the deceased artiste.
She made the allegation during an interview on Channels Television earlier in the week, where she spoke about the ongoing family disagreements since Mohbad’s death.
During the interview, Wunmi recounted how long she had known the late singer, describing the deep bond they shared before his passing.
She explained that their relationship began many years ago as friends before eventually developing into a romantic relationship.
According to her, their closeness lasted for years and they built a life together before disputes later emerged within the family after the arrival of their son, Liam.
She explained that tensions within the family increased following the birth of Liam, adding that the relationship she once had with Mohbad’s father deteriorated over time.
Wunmi stated that issues surrounding family matters and inheritance became more complicated after the singer’s death, leading to disagreements over rights and responsibilities connected to Mohbad’s estate and personal affairs.
Speaking on the issue of royalties generated from Mohbad’s music, Wunmi disclosed that nobody had taken control of the proceeds because the late singer had an unresolved legal matter with his former record label before his death.
She explained that the dispute was already before the court and required a legal representative to continue the process after Mohbad passed away.
According to Wunmi, Mohbad’s lawyer later appointed the singer’s brother alongside their son, Liam, as representatives connected to the matter.
She stated that because Liam is still a minor, she has been acting on behalf of the child in handling issues linked to the legal process and matters concerning the late singer’s royalties and entitlements.
Wunmi further alleged that Joseph Aloba later requested access to the royalties while also questioning the legality of her marriage to Mohbad.
She maintained that before the disagreement began, her father-in-law had acknowledged their union.
She also insisted that she would continue to bear the Aloba name, stressing that nobody could prevent her from doing so, Wunmi accused him of attempting to push both her and her son away from the family.
Reflecting on her relationship with the late singer, Wunmi said she continues to miss him daily. She said, “That is someone I have known since I was about 12 years old. We were first friends then we became lovers,” she stated…….See More
