Former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS, Usman Yusuf, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 presidential election was largely made possible by support from Northern Muslim voters.
According to a report by THE SUN on Thursday, May 7, 2026, Yusuf said it was wrong to believe that Tinubu became president mainly because of support from the South-West region. He argued that Northern Muslims played a major role in delivering votes that helped Tinubu win the election and secure power in 2023.
Yusuf also claimed that the same Northern Muslim group that strongly supported Tinubu during the election is now facing political neglect from the current administration.
According to him, “It wasn’t the Southwest that brought Tinubu to power, it was Northern Muslims, and they are now the ones he’s fighting.”
