According to a report by The Punch on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Dele Momodu, has continued to weigh in on the shifting dynamics within Nigeria’s opposition, particularly following the recent political movements involving Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Momodu maintained that the current alignment among some opposition figures was largely shaped by external political pressure rather than deep-rooted unity. He suggested that the evolving coalition landscape reflects a reaction to circumstances rather than a carefully built long-term alliance, especially as political actors reposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

While reacting to the defection of Obi and Kwankwaso to the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Momodu urged political stakeholders to remain cautious in their decisions and avoid acting out of panic or pressure. He emphasised that hasty political moves could lead to unintended consequences, particularly in a rapidly changing environment where loyalties and strategies continue to shift.

He advised that politicians should be deliberate and thoughtful in their approach, warning against impulsive reactions to political challenges. In his words, “Stop running from whatever is chasing you, because you might run into what is chasing you.”

Momodu further stressed that electoral success cannot be built around assumptions or past performances, noting that the political terrain has changed significantly since the last general election.
