Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and ADC NWC member Babachir Lawal has argued that only 17 House of Representatives members defecting alongside Peter Obi actually reveals how limited his support base within the legislature truly is.
Speaking on Arise TV, Babachir Lawal said, “It looks like a big number, but it’s not a big deal. If Peter Obi leaves and the Southeast decides to go with him, they go with the House of Representatives members and all. If Kwankwaso decides to leave with about 44 members of the House of Reps from Kano, some will follow him. In fact, if they are saying 17, it means that it is not much, given the number of Southeast people that are in the House of Representatives. If only 17 are able to go with them, they should pray that the rest are still on the ground,” he said.
He however acknowledged that losing both Obi and Kwankwaso is a genuine blow to the ADC. He noted that even a single defection carries weight in politics, since electoral outcomes are ultimately built one vote and one person at a time.
He also revealed that he personally played a leading role in bringing Kwankwaso into the ADC, believing the Kwankwasiyya movement’s organic grassroots following would add real value to the party, making the departure all the more painful on a personal level……See More
