In a recent interview shared by Arise News, Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, Dr Sam Amadi, reflected on the unexpected dynamics of Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election, particularly the rise of Peter Obi.
Speaking during the interview, Amadi recounted conversations he had with influential political figures before the election. According to him, many established politicians underestimated Obi’s chances at the time. He stated, “In 2023, I was with some big politicians and they told me then Peter Obi cannot get 1 million votes; Sule Lamido told me personally.”
Amadi noted that the eventual outcome challenged those early assumptions, as Obi went on to secure millions of votes nationwide and built a strong grassroots movement. He explained that the development revealed a disconnect between traditional political elites and the evolving preferences of Nigerian voters.
The political analyst further emphasized that the 2023 election demonstrated the growing influence of public sentiment, especially among young and urban voters. He added that shifting political alignments and voter awareness are increasingly shaping electoral outcomes in ways that defy old calculations.
Amadi concluded that Nigeria’s political landscape remains fluid, urging observers to pay close attention to emerging trends ahead of future elections…..See More
