Bayo Onanuga, the senior special adviser on Information and Strategy to President Tinubu has downplayed the significance of the reasons given by the former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi for leaving the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
According to the statements which were shared on his official X handle on Sunday May 3rd, 2026 he pointed out that the former governor’s inability to compete with his opponents informed his decision to leave the ADC.
Peter Obi, it can be recalled, had left many, including his supporters stunned after he announced his decision to severe ties with the African Democratic Congress few months to the general elections in 2027.
However, while he absolved ADC Chieftains, Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi of blames, he cited misunderstandings as the key reason for his departure.
The reasons given by the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate however, did not sit well with a section of the general public, particularly Bayo Onanuga, who believed the former Anambra governor’s inability to compete with Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi informed his decision to leave.
