My Dad Was A Minister & Worked With Awolowo; My Twin Brother Is Kehinde, My Mom Is From Anambra -Anuku

According to Hanks Anuku, the veteran Nollywood actor was born in Ibadan in 1962 into a family with a strong political history, with his father having served as a minister during Nigeria’s First Republic and worked with the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo under the Action Group.

Anuku shared the details of his family background during an interview on the Honest Bunch Podcast, where he spoke about his childhood, his parents, his siblings and his upbringing. His comments provided a glimpse into a part of his personal history that is not widely known.

The actor explained that although his father was from Delta State, his mother came from Anambra State. He also revealed that he was born as a twin and identified his twin brother as Kehinde. According to Anuku, Kehinde currently lives in the United States, specifically in Atlanta, Georgia.

“Back in the day in 1962 in Ibadan, my father was a First Republic minister with the Action Group, he worked with Awolowo. My mom is from Anambra and I am from Delta and I am a twin. Kehinde, my twin brother, is back in the United States. I left him there in Atlanta, Georgia, and a couple of my siblings too,” he said.

Anuku’s account highlights the different parts of Nigeria connected to his family history. His father’s background in Delta State and his mother’s roots in Anambra State form part of the family heritage he described during the interview. His birth in Ibadan also adds another connection to his early life and upbringing.

The actor further disclosed that he currently lives in Abuja with his two children, while some of his siblings have remained in the United States. His remarks about his twin brother also offered a rare insight into his relationship with his family and where some of his relatives are currently based.

His reference to his father’s political career also connects his family history to an important period in Nigeria’s past. The First Republic began in 1960 and ended following the military coup of January 1966. During that period, Awolowo and the Action Group were major political figures and played an important role, particularly in the politics of the Western Region.

Anuku is known for his long career in Nollywood and for appearing in numerous Nigerian films. His latest comments, however, focused less on his acting career and more on his personal background, giving listeners an opportunity to learn about his family history, his twin brother and the political connection of his late father.
