Chibuike Ikenga, APC spokesman in Rivers State, has claimed that FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s strong support for President Bola Tinubu is one of the reasons some APC governors oppose his Rainbow Coalition initiative.
Speaking during an interview on News Central TV, Ikenga said the progressive governors, led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, were uncomfortable with Wike’s growing influence and achievements.
According to him, Wike has become a key figure in the Tinubu administration because he publicly defends the president, speaks on his behalf, and faces criticism on his behalf.
Ikenga argued that Wike’s political influence has created tension among some governors who, he claimed, were concerned about the minister’s growing public image and expanding political support base.
He further stated that Wike had helped unite people in Rivers State through the Rainbow Coalition, while working to extend the group’s presence to other states.
The APC spokesman said the coalition’s expansion was aimed at bringing more people together to support President Tinubu and improve the chances of a smooth electoral victory.
In his words, “He’s the face of the government today. He’s the one who speaks on behalf of the president, defends him, takes all the bullets, and that has obviously incurred the wrath of those less-performing progressive governors.”
