According to a report by Symfoni News on Friday, July 24, 2026, Political commentator, Igho Akeregha, has pushed back against claims by the ruling All Progressives Congress that it already holds the late President Muhammadu Buhari’s twelve million votes.
He argued the claim contradicts basic electoral history heading into the 2027 election.
Akeregha pointed out that despite widespread belief in Buhari’s so-called captured northern votes, President Bola Tinubu managed to secure only 8.79 million votes in 2023.
‘This occurred while Buhari was still alive, raising questions about the party’s current claims regarding a guaranteed voting bloc.’
He said: “APC said they already have 12m votes of Buhari in their kitty. Yet in 2023, they had 8.79m votes.’
‘I listen to the argument of the rulling party saying they already have 12 million votes of Buhari in their kitty. Before the election Buhari was still alive.’
‘Then if Buhari could not deliver the so Led phantom, you know ambiguous 12 million votes he had in 2023 general election and Tinubu ended up having 8 point something million votes, so where are the 12 million votes they’re talking about, you know?”
He described the party’s continued reliance on this figure as questionable and vague.
He insisted that no verifiable evidence supports the existence of such a guaranteed voting bloc still available for mobilisation ahead of 2027.
He added: “So for me that is curious and that is a bit nebulous to claim that they’re something standing figure somewhere that is already secured.’
‘Then the APC also came around to say their looking at their registered voters that they have over 20 million voters in their register. So if you add 12 million to 20 million, you are taking about 32 million votes.”
