Biafran Troops Burnt My Blind Grandma In Her House, What Came To My Mind Was “Can I Revenge” -Bassey

Rose Hogan Bassey, a retired Nigerian soldier, has stated that she decided to join the military after her grandmother was killed during the Nigerian Civil War

In a video shared by BBC News Africa, Bassey said during the war, Biafran soldiers entered her village and burnt several houses there. She said her grandmother was blind and could not run away like other villagers so the Biafran troops burnt her inside her house

Bassey said she later joined the Nigerian Army in 1968. She stated that she was among the first women recruited during the civil war and they were popularly known as the “Commando Girls.”

In Bassey’s words: “When the war broke out the Biafran soldiers came, occupied the whole village and they went about burning the houses until they got to my grandmother’s house.
