Veteran Kannywood actor and filmmaker Ali Nuhu has shared a touching account of his childhood, opening up about the emotional reality of growing up without his father after his parents separated.
During a recent conversation on With Chude, the actor reflected on his early years, explaining that although he was born in Borno State, he spent most of his upbringing in Kano. He recalled fond memories of visiting Borno during school holidays, noting that it was a calm and culturally rich environment at the time, especially because his grandmother lived there.
However, beneath those memories was a personal story of absence that shaped his life. Speaking candidly, Nuhu revealed, “After I Was 5 Years, I Never Saw My Dad Again Until I Graduated From Secondary School,” highlighting how long he went without contact with his father.
Despite this, the actor emphasised that he never felt deprived while growing up. He credited his mother for providing stability and support throughout his childhood. According to him, she worked tirelessly, starting as a teacher at Yerwa Central Primary School before rising to the position of headmistress. She later joined Nigerian Airways as an assistant catering manager, further strengthening her ability to care for her family.
Nuhu explained that his mother’s dedication ensured he had access to education and a comfortable upbringing, filling the gap left by his father’s absence. He added that her influence remained strong in his life until her passing, a loss he described as deeply painful.
