Popular Nigerian preacher Joshua Iginla has cautioned Nigerians against making hasty decisions to relocate abroad, arguing that many young people are risking their future in pursuit of greener pastures without proper planning. Speaking during a sermon on the growing “Japa” trend, Iginla stressed that although Nigeria faces serious economic challenges, the country still offers opportunities for those willing to build something meaningful.
“You want to go and do masters with almost 50 million. Why? You can use 50 million to start something here,” he said while warning against selling family properties just to finance relocation plans.
According to the preacher, many Nigerians travel abroad with visiting visas and later struggle to survive after their permits expire. He argued that some eventually fall into illegal activities because they are unable to secure legal employment in foreign countries. Iginla noted that people often assume life abroad is automatically comfortable, but reality can be harsh for migrants who arrive without proper support systems.
Drawing from his personal travel experiences in France and other European countries, the cleric explained that many migrants underestimate the cost of living overseas. He maintained that rent and daily survival abroad can be overwhelming compared to Nigeria, despite the country’s economic difficulties.
Iginla also warned young women to be careful of individuals promising free relocation opportunities, saying some end up trapped in sex trafficking networks after surrendering their passports abroad.
While clarifying that he is not against relocation, the preacher urged Nigerians to make informed decisions rather than “stupid Japa” moves that could destroy their destiny.
