A legal expert, Liborous Oshoma, has explained why the 2027 presidential race could become more complicated if opposition figures fail to unite.
Speaking during an interview on TVC News, he said some political actors are quietly encouraging Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar to run separately because their alliance would pose a serious challenge. According to him, this strategy makes both men appear strong on their own while weakening their overall chances against a more organised opponent.
Oshoma noted that Atiku is already well known for his long-standing presidential ambition, which is why attention is often shifted toward Obi. By doing this, political rivals may be trying to prevent any strong partnership from forming.
He also pointed to regional sentiments that could influence voters. In parts of the North, there is a strong desire for power to remain in the region, while some Southern voters may prefer a different candidate if Atiku is on the ballot.
Speaking on the proposed Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso ticket, Oshoma questioned how such an arrangement would be accepted, especially in Kano. He said it could be difficult to convince Kwankwaso’s supporters to see him step down from a presidential ambition to become a running mate.
He added that long-standing political and regional differences between the North and Southeast could further affect voter decisions, making unity among opposition leaders even more challenging.
In his words, “He was asking, how do you convince the voters in Kano that their god, their saint, who had consistently wanted to be president now wants to be a running mate?”…….See More
