According to a report by the Punch on Saturday, May 30, 2026, the elder brother of Gospel Kinanee has recounted the emotional moment he reunited with his sibling after nearly two decades, revealing that the long-lost teenager was discovered in a correctional facility in Port Harcourt after disappearing as a 14-year-old in 2007.
He explained that the family had searched tirelessly for Gospel after he vanished from their community, checking hospitals, police stations, and several correctional centres without success. The search continued for years until the family eventually believed he had died.
Hope was unexpectedly revived earlier this year when he received information from a legal team that his brother had been located inside the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre. Although he initially doubted the claim because the family had already given up hope, he later agreed to visit after repeated assurances from those who contacted him.
Describing the painful reunion, he said, “Immediately I got there, I saw my brother outside, but he could no longer recognise me.” He explained that the sight left him shattered because while he instantly recognised Gospel, his brother appeared mentally unstable and unable to identify him or respond properly.
He added that Gospel, now 32, had spent 18 years behind bars under unclear circumstances, with correctional authorities unable to provide any proper explanation for his detention or produce any official case file detailing why he was imprisoned.
According to him, Gospel had been a healthy and active boy before his disappearance, making his present mental condition deeply heartbreaking for the family. He noted that his release was eventually secured after intervention from lawyers and the Rivers State Chief Judge, who granted him clemency…..See More
