General Overseer of Outreach Ministries International, Prophet Isa El-Buba has said he personally encouraged several political figures to work with Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election, but has now decided to publicly explain why his support will not continue into 2027.
During an interview with News Central TV, El-Buba said he had previously used his political and religious networks to mobilise support for Obi and advised other presidential hopefuls to back the former Anambra State governor.
“I told all of them to go and work with Peter Obi in 2023, but now I will tell you the truth,” El-Buba said while discussing how his position had changed since the last election.
He explained that his earlier support was strong enough that people approaching him with presidential ambitions were repeatedly encouraged to join Obi’s political movement rather than pursue separate campaigns.
The cleric said Obi received considerable support from individuals who contributed their time, money and personal efforts to his presidential ambition.
El-Buba also recalled his role in mobilising support across Plateau State and the wider Middle Belt, saying he openly campaigned for Obi despite the risks involved.
According to him, his present disagreement with Obi concerns what happened after the 2023 election and whether the political movement created during the campaign was properly maintained.
He said he expected Obi to remain closely connected to those who had worked for him and to continue organising the movement after the election.
El-Buba maintained that his decision to withdraw support was not an attack on Obi personally, adding that he still regarded him as someone he respected.
He said his decision ahead of 2027 was based on what he described as his honest assessment of the leadership Nigeria needs and the qualities he now expects from the next president.
