APC chieftain Abdulmumin Jibrin has revealed that some northern governors actively discouraged him from supporting President Bola Tinubu during the early days of his 2022 presidential campaign and that Tinubu, upon winning, repaid their opposition with forgiveness and government appointments.
Speaking on Channels TV, he said, “When in 2022 we started with Bisi Akande, the former Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, Jimmy Benson, and we all came together and started the initial process of the campaign. I went to him because I knew that there were a lot of people around the former president who didn’t want him, some of them governors and the rest,” he said.
Jibrin said Tinubu gave him the green light to reach out to the northern governors personally. “And I went, and believe me, I swear before man and God, some of the governors told me, ‘Be careful. Stay off this thing. You will destroy yourself. I never agreed. And I went back and reported everything to him. Fast forward, when he won the election, many of those people were appointed into his government.”
He also dismissed any speculation about a rift between Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, describing their relationship as one built on genuine chemistry from the very beginning.
He revealed that he was personally the one who approached Shettima during the early campaign days when prominent northern voices were scarce, and that Shettima was one of only three northerners who stepped forward to publicly back Tinubu at that stage…..See More
