I Told Tinubu That You Have To Use Your Gun To Kill The Terrorists Or Use A Pen To Resign -Adebayo

According to a report by Sahara Reporters on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, Adewole Adebayo, who is the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, has restated his strong criticism of Nigeria’s security situation while recalling a previous conversation he claimed to have had with President Bola Tinubu.

Adebayo made the comments during a condolence visit to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, following a terrorist attack that occurred in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oriire Local Government Area. He used the opportunity to highlight what he described as the worsening insecurity situation in Oyo State and other parts of the country.

According to him, the level of insecurity has reached a point where urgent and decisive leadership is required. He alleged that he previously told President Tinubu that he must take strong action against terrorists or consider resigning from office if he is unable to deliver on security responsibilities.

He was quoted as saying: “Nigerian people need to understand that it’s no longer a joke. I told Tinubu sometime last year that you have to use your gun to kill the terrorists or use a pen to resign.”

The SDP candidate further argued that the situation in Oyo State is not unique, insisting that many states in Nigeria are facing similar threats from violent groups. He suggested that the federal government’s response has been inadequate in addressing the scale of the crisis.

Adebayo also praised Governor Makinde for reportedly committing state resources to support local security outfits such as Amotekun in an attempt to strengthen grassroots security response. At the same time, he accused the federal government of mismanaging security resources and failing to provide effective protection for citizens.
