Factional National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, has reiterated his confidence in the judicial process while defending ongoing leadership and political preparations within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Abure made the remarks during an exclusive interview on Symfoni TV on Monday, May 25, 2026, where he spoke on the party’s mentorship programmes, preparations for future elections, and the legal disputes surrounding the leadership of the Labour Party.
Speaking during the interview, Abure recalled that the party had earlier announced plans to support vulnerable groups seeking elective positions in the next general elections.
“And you’ll recall that in January this year, we also made it clear that we are going to encourage the vulnerable members in our society, the youth, women, and even the physically challenged, that we are going to give them free forms in the 2027 general election,” he said.
He explained that beneficiaries of the initiative would be required to participate in leadership and mentorship programmes organised by the party. “But they have to participate in our mentorship program and all of that. Leadership mentorship program and so on,” Abure stated.
According to him, the programmes are already ongoing and some prospective aspirants have completed training ahead of future political contests. “And these programs have been on. And we already trained people who are ready to run for election,” he added.
Abure further linked the ongoing political preparations to the legal disputes currently before the courts regarding the leadership structure of the Labour Party. “And so since we have gone to Supreme Court, and the electoral acts explains who must have participated in all the processes, we want to lay the foundation,” he said.
The Labour Party chairman also expressed confidence in the judicial direction of the Supreme Court concerning matters involving party leadership and internal affairs. “If you look at the recent thinking of the Supreme Court, Supreme Court have been very, very vehement, very, very categorical. The issues of party leadership are an internal affair of the party,” he stated.
Abure accused former senator Nenadi Usman and Alex Otti of actions he described as unjust and contrary to democratic principles. “So we believe that the injustice, the impunity, the gangsterism, the rascality that Nenadi Usman and the governor of Abia State, Alex Otti is exhibiting can never stand before the Supreme Court,” he said.
He maintained that the activities currently being undertaken by his faction were lawful and consistent with democratic practice. “And so we don’t want to be caught napping. And that’s why we are doing what we are doing,” Abure stated. “It’s permissible. It’s a democratic process. It’s a process that is open. It’s free,” he added.
Abure concluded by expressing optimism that the legal dispute would ultimately be resolved in his favour. “And I believe that at the end of the day, justice will be done. I will be justified at the end of the day,” he stated……See More
