Former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Chidi Odinkalu, has reacted to the recent violent attack in Kwara State, where bandits reportedly killed three persons and abducted about 15 worshippers at a prayer mountain in Ekiti Local Government Area of the state.
Odinkalu made the remarks in a post shared on social media, where he criticised the handling of security narratives in the state.
According to reports, the attack occurred during a raid on a prayer site, leaving several residents dead and others kidnapped, in yet another incident linked to rising insecurity in parts of the country.
Reacting to the development, Odinkalu accused the state government of downplaying the severity of the situation.
“In Kwara State, ordinary citizens are being slaughtered & abducted from places of worship,” he wrote.
He further alleged that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq was presenting inaccurate figures regarding the security situation while speaking in Abuja.
“The Governor is manufacturing fantasy numbers in Abuja,” Odinkalu stated.
The human rights advocate’s comments have added to ongoing public concern over repeated attacks in rural communities and worship centres across parts of Kwara State and other regions in Nigeria.
The incident has sparked renewed debate about the effectiveness of security strategies and the need for stronger protection of vulnerable communities, particularly in remote areas where attacks have been recurring.
Authorities in Kwara State have yet to issue a detailed public response to the latest allegations made by Odinkalu, while residents continue to call for improved security presence and urgent intervention…..See More
