It’s Wrong For Me To Say I’ve Been In The Industry Since 1982 If I Left 1988 And Return 2020 -Odule

Veteran Nigerian actor Dele Odule has said it is misleading for entertainers to claim uninterrupted decades of experience in the film industry if they took long breaks from acting.

In an interview with PUNCH on Saturday, May 23, 2026, Odule explained that anyone who left the industry for many years and later returned should not count those inactive years as part of their experience. He noted that such gaps make it difficult for returning actors to compete with those who remained consistently active in the industry.

Odule said that actors who step away for decades and later return often have to start afresh, as the industry would have moved on without them.

Odule stated that some veterans exaggerate their years of experience, stressing that it is unfair to include periods when they were not actively practising the profession.

He said,

“It would be wrong of me to say I’ve been in the industry since 1982 if I had left in 1987 or 1988 then came back in 2020. I can’t claim that I’ve been in the system for 44 years. What about the 30 years I was away? Who will account for that?……See More
