According to an official report published by Vanguard Newspaper on July 24, 2026, the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has officially appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to withhold assent to a controversial anti-preaching and hawking bill currently progressing through the National Assembly.
Speaking through its national leadership in Lagos, the religious body described the proposed legislation as unnecessary, disproportionate, and inherently conflicting with constitutional guarantees protecting freedom of thought, conscience, and religious expression across Nigeria.
The PFN expressed grave concern that if enacted into law, the legislation could be selectively weaponized by law enforcement agencies and local authorities to target Christian evangelical activities, open-air crusades, and street evangelism. Representatives argued that existing public order laws and municipal regulations are already sufficient to address public nuisance or noise pollution without restricting fundamental constitutional rights.
