Chidi Odinkalu, a renowned human rights activist and former chairman of the national human rights commission has taken to his official X handle to address the controversies that trailed the congratulatory message extended to the newly elected NBA president, Mrs Badejo-Okusanya by president Tinubu.
According to the statements which were shared on his official X handle on Wednesday July 22nd, 2026 he pointed out that it was a well known practice for the president to extend congratulatory messages to elected presidents of the largest bar association in Africa.
It can be recalled that many had taken to different social media platforms to express scepticism over the letter sent by president Tinubu to Mrs Badejo-Okusanya, arguing that the president was soliciting support ahead of the 2027 presidential elections.
However, to back up his arguments, the well known and respected professor shared reports of the congratulatory messages sent by former president Muhammadu Buhari to elected NBA presidents within the last few years.
He further made it known that whosoever was declared or announced as winner in the 2026 NBA elections was always going to get a letter from President Tinubu regardless of political affiliations or ethnicity.
