According to a recent video by Kaa Truth, Nollywood veteran Ugezu J. Ugezu has identified over-centralisation of power and weak institutions as Nigeria’s fundamental problems, asserting that individuals have become stronger than the nation’s structures.
Speaking during a recent interview, Ugezu dismissed the popular “Happy New Month” ritual as a distraction from productivity, noting that no African country celebrates new months as intensely as Nigeria. “Wishes do not bring success. Of course, wishes give you hope.
It actually ends there,” he stated. When asked if things are getting better, he responded, “I should not be sincere with myself if I tell you that things are getting better.” He argued that government actions have not translated into common welfare.
Ugezu also criticised Nigeria’s over-reliance on prayers, recalling when Nigerians were urged to pray for China due to its lack of Christian knowledge. “A country that is already successful,” he remarked, contrasting Nigeria’s poverty with China’s technological advancement in nuclear physics and science.
His Words: “ If you are a Catholic, you will remember there was a time Nigerians were actually praying for Russia and some other countries that we believed did not know God. So we were brainwashed to that level that because they did not know God, they were going to perish. Therefore, we should be praying for them.
