According to a recent video by Oyinmomo TV on Sunday, July 13, 2026, Veteran Nollywood actor Mustapha Bakare, popularly known as Otolo, has issued a stern warning to the younger generation of actors against taking on roles meant for elderly characters.
The seasoned thespian described the trend as a “conspiracy” against authentic storytelling in the Nigerian film industry.
Speaking during a recent interview, Bakare expressed deep concern over producers who cast 25-year-old actors to portray 70-year-old characters, labelling the practice as detrimental to the craft. “How will you use a 25-year-old person to act like a 70-year-old? I see it as a conspiracy,” he declared emphatically.
The veteran actor, known for his decades of remarkable performances, specifically criticised the erosion of quality in comedy films. “This generation of actors are tearing comedy down with mediocrity,” Bakare lamented, calling on filmmakers to cast elderly actors for elderly roles to preserve authenticity and professional standards in Nollywood.
Bakare’s admonition serves as a wake-up call to the industry, urging producers to respect the art form by matching characters appropriately with actors who possess the requisite life experience and acting depth.
