A group of Lagos-based triplets has opened up about the unique attention they receive from the public, revealing how strangers often approach them with admiration, gifts, and special requests.
Sharing their experience on Punch Newsapers, the sisters explained that many people see them as a symbol of blessing and good fortune. According to them, it is not uncommon for strangers to stop them in public, offer gifts, or even ask them to pray on their behalf.
They noted that some individuals go as far as requesting prayers for fertility, expressing the hope of having twins or triplets themselves. In some cases, people also ask them to touch their stomachs, believing it could transfer the “blessing” associated with multiple births.
“Some women tell us to put our hands on their belly and pray for them to have triplets,” they disclosed.
The triplets explained that this reaction is deeply rooted in cultural beliefs. In many Nigerian communities, multiple births, especially triplets are considered rare and special, often viewed as a sign of divine favor.
