Pastor Adeboye Visited My Father To Seek His Consent For Our Marriage, But He Refused -Odesola

At 70, Pastor Adebisi Rachel Odesola, wife of the Continental Overseer 3 of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), expressed gratitude as she reflected on a life shaped by faith, survival, family, and ministry impact.

In an interview with The Nation during a celebration held in her honour at RCCG Dominion Parish, she narrated her experiences, including religious persecution after her conversion to Christianity, life-threatening childbirth complications, and years of missionary service in Nigeria and Zambia.

She said all these experiences had continually strengthened her faith and deepened her reliance on God as her source of strength.

She said, “An unforgettable experience was during my courtship and eventual marriage to my husband, Pastor Funsho Odesola.

“At that time, several senior pastors sent by Daddy G.O. visited my father to seek his consent for our marriage, but he refused repeatedly.

“In fact, a wedding date had already been fixed for 1986, but because my father would not give his approval, the wedding had to be cancelled.”

She explained that the church insisted on parental consent, so they waited on God’s guidance. According to her, in 1989, God gave her husband a specific wedding date.

She further stated that when the matter was brought before their State Pastor at the time, the late Pastor P.O. Ojo, he informed Daddy G.O., who said his diary was already full and suggested that Pastor Abiona should officiate the wedding instead.

She added that when Pastor Abiona checked his schedule, the only available Saturday was June 3, 1989, which coincided exactly with the date they believed God had revealed to her husband. She said that was how their wedding eventually took place and noted that, since then, God had remained faithful to them.
