As reported by Punch News on Saturday, June 6, 2026, Jennifer Atsar, mother of Sesugh, who was allegedly killed by EFCC officers, said she was told that her son ran when he saw an officer draw a gun. She said the officers chased and shot him at close range.

In her words: “Upon sighting them, one of the EFCC officers drew a gun. I was told that my son ran when he saw the gun. They chased him and shot him at close range.”

Recounting the incident, Atsar said she was told that two EFCC officers called her son’s friend, and they both went to meet the officers at the hotel where they were staying. She said Sesugh and his friend arrived at the hotel on a motorcycle; Sesugh got off, opened the gate, and rode in. Atsar added that one of the officers pulled out a gun as soon as he saw them.

She further stated that after her son had been shot by one of the officers, they attempted to escape, but people in the area insisted that the EFCC officers must leave with Sesugh’s lifeless body. Atsar said her son called out the name of the officer who shot him as he gasped for breath.
