According to a report by Anadolu Agency on Saturday, June 6, 2026, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has said it carried out missile strikes targeting two United States air bases in Kuwait and facilities linked to the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, in what it described as retaliation for recent drone attacks on Iranian territory and maritime tensions in the Gulf region.
In a statement issued on Saturday morning, the IRGC said the escalation followed a series of incidents involving foreign vessels and unmanned aerial operations near sensitive Iranian infrastructure.
According to the statement, at about 1:30 a.m., four oil tankers allegedly attempted to leave the Strait of Hormuz without proper coordination and in defiance of warnings issued by the IRGC Navy. The corps said the vessels were “instigated and guided” by US military forces and ignored repeated instructions to stop.
It added that after warnings were issued, one of the tankers was intercepted and disabled, while the remaining vessels retreated from the area.
The IRGC further claimed that at around 2:30 a.m., US drones carried out strikes on telecommunications infrastructure on Qeshm Island and Sirik, hitting two communication masts with projectiles. Iranian media sources also reported hearing explosions in the Sirik area at the time of the alleged attack.
In response, the IRGC Aerospace Force said it launched ballistic missiles toward what it identified as two US military installations in Kuwait, including the Al-Salem Air Base, as well as strategic facilities associated with the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain.
“The aggressive and child-killing enemy should know that if such acts of villainy are repeated, the response will not be limited,” the statement warned, adding that further actions could include broader strategic consequences.
The IRGC also issued a stern warning regarding maritime security in the region, stating that continued hostilities could lead to the “complete closure of the Strait of Hormuz” to oil and gas exports linked to hostile actors.
In a separate reaction, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a post on X that its forces had intercepted four Iranian one-way attack drones allegedly heading toward the Strait of Hormuz. It described the drones as posing an immediate threat to regional maritime traffic.
CENTCOM further stated that US forces conducted strikes on Iranian coastal radar sites in Goruk and Qeshm Island, which it said were intended to prevent further attacks and protect shipping lanes. The US military maintained that its actions were defensive and in response to what it called “unjustified Iranian aggression.”
The exchange comes amid a long-running cycle of tensions between Iran and the United States, particularly in the Gulf region, where strategic waterways such as the Strait of Hormuz remain critical to global energy supplies.
Iranian state media also reported heightened military activity in the area, while reiterating the IRGC Navy’s assertion that it maintains full control over the Strait of Hormuz and is prepared to respond to any perceived violations by foreign forces.
