Babafemi Ojudu, a former Special Adviser to ex-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, claimed that Osinbajo visited the Niger Delta in 2017 to speak with militant commanders and urge them to quit damaging oil pipelines.
Before Osinbajo began the trip, Buhari was worried about his protection, Ojudu said in an interview with Channels Television. According to him, Buhari told Osinbajo that he may be kidnapped, making him the first Vice President in Nigerian history to be kidnapped.
Ojudu said that he and Osinbajo traveled by helicopter to Gbaramatu in Delta State for the scheduled meeting with the militant leaders. He claimed that the insurgent leaders gave them a warm reception and even gifts.
Ojudu states: I recall the president being taken aback when Osinbajo volunteered to go, and he said, “If you go, you will be the first Vice President in history to be kidnapped. “
