Lere Olayinka Was Invited And Questioned Over The Emeka Ike Matter -Police

According to a report by the Punch on Thursday, June 4, 2026, detectives of the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team have questioned the Senior Special Assistant on Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Lere Olayinka, and detained an Independent National Electoral Commission official over the alleged unauthorised release of a voter registration record.

The investigation was reportedly initiated following a petition alleging cyber-related offences and the unlawful disclosure of confidential documents containing the personal information of actor Emeka Ike.

Sources familiar with the matter disclosed that an electoral officer attached to the Abuja Municipal Area Council is being investigated for allegedly releasing sensitive voter registration information linked to a political controversy that emerged during a party primary election.

Speaking on the development, a security source stated, “Lere Olayinka was invited and questioned over the Emeka Ike matter.”

According to the source, the controversy began after protesters gathered at the INEC office in AMAC on May 29, 2026, alleging irregularities in an ongoing primary election. The official reportedly accessed Emeka Ike’s voter registration details through the commission’s portal and later directed a subordinate to obtain a screenshot from the INEC Voter Enrolment Device.

Investigators alleged that the information was eventually shared with Olayinka after communication between both men moved from Facebook Messenger to WhatsApp. The leaked document later became the subject of public controversy after it surfaced online.

Another source said Olayinka told investigators that he had posted videos of the protest on social media before being contacted by the electoral officer, who allegedly complained that INEC was being unfairly criticised by protesters.

While the electoral officer remains in custody as investigations continue, Olayinka was reportedly granted administrative bail after honouring the police invitation and providing his statement.

When contacted, Olayinka confirmed that he had been invited by the police and complied with the request but declined to comment further on the ongoing investigation……See More
