According to a report by Daily Post on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, Anthony Sani, former Secretary General of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), on Wednesday expressed confidence that the North would support President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
In an interview, Sani explained that the northern region’s backing of Tinubu’s second-term bid is part of a broader political strategy aimed at enhancing the North’s chances of reclaiming the presidency in 2031.
He emphasized that continuity in leadership could serve the strategic interests of the region.
Sani also addressed the political alignment in other parts of the country, particularly the South-East.
According to him, voters in the South-East are likely to support the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi.
He attributed this inclination to what he described as the politics of zoning, which influences voter behavior and party choices in different regions.
Commenting further on Peter Obi’s prospects, Sani noted that the North would not endorse his candidacy in the upcoming election.
He stated that the region lacks confidence in Obi’s commitment to serving a single term, implying that northern voters are wary of the potential political risks of supporting him.
Meanwhile, Oladimeji Fabiyi, an ally of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, leveled serious allegations against former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal.
Fabiyi accused Lawal of being responsible for religious tensions in the North, highlighting the intersection of politics and regional unrest.
Fabiyi made these claims on Wednesday during an interview with Trust TV, his statements came in response to Lawal’s recent allegations that the ADC’s presidential primary election was manipulated to favor Atiku Abubakar.
Lawal, who recently announced his departure from the ADC, also questioned Atiku’s suitability for the presidency.
Fabiyi said, “Babachir Lawal lacks integrity. He is a leader and elder in Adamawa State and in the North, but sincerely speaking, he’s not acting like one. Today, I’m going to take you back memory lane, what this man did, so that Nigerians can know and see who he really is…..See More
