I Like Obasanjo A Lot And He Knows That, But I’m Also His Biggest Critic -Rotimi Amaechi

Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has opened up about his relationship with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, describing it as one built on both admiration and disagreement.

Amaechi made the remarks during an interview with Chude Jideonwo while discussing some of the influential figures who shaped his political journey.

According to him, he holds Obasanjo in high regard and appreciates his contributions to Nigeria, despite not always agreeing with his views and methods. He said: “I like Obasanjo a lot, but I’m also his biggest critic.”

The former governor explained that many of his disagreements with Obasanjo stem from what he described as the former president’s strong conviction about how Nigeria should be governed.

According to Amaechi, Obasanjo often approaches national issues with a firm belief that he knows the best path for the country.

He suggested that this mindset sometimes creates the impression that the former president sees himself as uniquely positioned to solve Nigeria’s problems.

However, Amaechi was quick to add that he believes Obasanjo’s actions are motivated by genuine concern for the nation rather than personal interests.

The politician also reflected on some of the conflicts that existed between them in the past, noting that their relationship was not always smooth.

Despite those disagreements, Amaechi maintained that he still considers Obasanjo an important figure in Nigeria’s political history and someone whose influence cannot be ignored.

According to him, it is possible to respect a leader’s contributions while also openly criticizing aspects of their leadership and political philosophy…..See More
