Damipe Adekoya has opened up about the lingering emotional scars from her childhood, revealing how early feelings of isolation shaped her search for love and validation outside her family.
Speaking during an appearance on Talk to Be, the Nollywood actress shared that although she grew up in a loving home, her parents’ demanding schedules and the expectations that came with being a pastor’s child made it difficult for her to freely express her emotions.
According to Adekoya, the environment left her feeling unseen at times, even though she knew her parents cared deeply for her. The lack of space to openly discuss her feelings gradually pushed her to seek affection and reassurance from people outside her immediate family.
Reflecting on the experience, the actress admitted that those early struggles still affect her today.
“I think I do find love from outsiders, even though my parents love me so much. I call my dad my first love. But it really affected me so much I couldn’t talk to anybody and I kind of grew up looking for love in places that I shouldn’t look for them. I’m not sure I have overcome it.”
Adekoya explained that she developed coping mechanisms while growing up, often masking her true emotions behind humor, laughter, and an energetic personality. Beneath the smiles, however, she said she was often dealing with deep shyness and emotional vulnerability.
The actress also acknowledged that trusting people remains a challenge for her. She revealed that when someone hurts her feelings, her instinct is often to withdraw completely rather than confront the issue or seek support.
In some cases, she said, that withdrawal can last for years, as she retreats into what she describes as a protective “shell.”
Her candid reflection offers a rare glimpse into the personal battles that can exist behind the glamour of the entertainment industry, while also highlighting the long-term impact childhood emotional experiences can have on adulthood…….See More
