Ahmed Reacts As Presenter Says Tinubu Wasn’t Defeated In 2023, How Can He Be Defeated Now With Power

The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has reacted to questions about how President Bola Ahmed Tinubu could be defeated in a future election despite the advantages of incumbency.

His comments were contained in a video published on the official X handle of Channels Television on May 17, 2026, during an interview discussing the current political situation in the country and preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

During the interview, the presenter asked Baba-Ahmed how opposition politicians intended to defeat Tinubu considering that he currently controls the machinery of government as president.

Responding to the question, Baba-Ahmed stated that defeating the president would depend on presenting Nigerians with a better alternative and convincing voters that a different leadership approach would improve the country’s situation.

According to him, the current administration has already weakened its own political position because of the economic hardship and insecurity many Nigerians are experiencing. He argued that widespread public dissatisfaction has created an opportunity for opposition parties to challenge the ruling government successfully.

Baba-Ahmed said, “He can be defeated by being better than him. First, he has done half of our work. He has messed up this country. He has made life miserable and he has made the country more insecure. Nigerians are unhappy and this is a fact”.

The PRP chairman further suggested that many Nigerians are becoming increasingly frustrated with the economic situation, rising cost of living, and insecurity across different parts of the country. According to him, public frustration could eventually influence voting patterns in future elections if opposition parties are able to organise effectively and present credible alternatives.

His comments have since generated reactions on social media, with supporters and critics debating his assessment of the Tinubu administration and the chances of opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections.

While some Nigerians agreed with his views on the country’s economic and security challenges, others defended the president, arguing that the administration inherited deep-rooted problems and should be given more time to implement reforms and stabilise the economy…….See More
