According to a report by the Cable on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, Senator Jibrin Echocho, representing Kogi East, voiced his significant frustration over what he sees as an effort to diminish his political importance, despite his unwavering loyalty to the state’s current leadership.
He pointed out that he has consistently supported the administration, showing allegiance not only to Governor Usman Ododo but also to former Governor Yahaya Bello.
Echocho believes his history demonstrates commitment and collaboration rather than opposition.
He questioned the reasoning behind what he calls attempts to deprive Kogi East of its most effective representation, arguing that such actions are unjust to the district’s residents, who deserve strong and capable leadership at all levels of government.
The senator clarified that his political aspirations do not include running for governor, emphasizing that he has communicated this position repeatedly to anyone willing to listen.
Nonetheless, he expressed regret that he now feels singled out, as if a confrontation is being imposed on him.
His comments suggest increasing friction within the state’s political environment, especially among prominent individuals who were once viewed as allies.
Echocho cautioned that if he continues to encounter resistance or animosity, he is ready to react appropriately.
“I have been very supportive of your administration. I have been loyal to you, (Usman Ododo), and Yahaya Bello. Why do you want to deny Kogi east the best representation ever?
