If I Were PBAT & Gave Govs Money, And They Didn’t Carry Out Projects, I’d Stop Giving Money -Amaechi

Former Rivers State Governor and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has criticised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the country’s economic situation and the use of public funds.

According to a report by Daily Trust on Monday, May 18, 2026, speaking during a programme, Amaechi said although some of Tinubu’s economic reforms may be necessary, they have increased hardship for many Nigerians. He accused some politicians and government officials of diverting public funds for personal gain instead of improving the lives of citizens.

Amaechi also blamed state governors for failing to use increased allocations for meaningful projects. According to him, if he were president and governors received money without carrying out projects that benefit the people, he would stop releasing funds to them.

The former minister questioned the removal of fuel subsidy, alleging that the savings were not being properly used for the benefit of Nigerians. He also raised concerns about taxes on businesses and the government’s borrowing, asking what the borrowed funds were being used for.

Amaechi denied claims that he once said he did not join politics to help Nigerians. He explained that he initially entered politics because he was unemployed, but later realised leadership should focus on national development.

On the 2027 election, Amaechi said the South should complete its turn in power and expressed confidence about securing the ADC presidential ticket.

Im his words, “If I were Tinubu and gave them money, and they did not carry out projects that would benefit the people within the first six months, I would stop giving them money. If Tinubu says governors are the problem, people should listen carefully, because even the governors are grumbling.”…….See More
