In a recent video on Monday, May 11th 2026, Joshua Iginla has urged Nigerians to approach relocation abroad with caution and wisdom, warning against making irreversible decisions driven by pressure or social trends.
Speaking during a sermon addressing migration concerns among young Nigerians, the cleric said he is not against international travel but stressed the importance of planning and realistic expectations.
“I’m not saying you should not travel,” Iginla said. “But if you want to ‘Japa,’ do it wisely—not foolishly. Don’t destroy your destiny.”
His remarks come amid continued debates in Nigeria over the rising number of citizens relocating abroad in search of better economic opportunities, commonly referred to as the “Japa” phenomenon.
The preacher warned that many migrants face unexpected difficulties after leaving the country, particularly those who travel without proper documentation, stable income, or long-term residency status.
“Some people you think are doing well abroad cannot return because they have no papers or money,” he stated. “If they come back, that is the end.”
Iginla argued that the perception of success abroad is often misleading, noting that many Nigerians underestimate the financial and social realities of living overseas. According to him, even small amounts of money can have different levels of value depending on the country and cost of living.
“When we were in France, even 20 euros there carries value,” he said. “You may not understand it, but it is significant.”
The cleric explained that his personal experiences traveling across parts of Europe shaped his perspective on migration decisions, especially among young people and families who sell assets to fund relocation.
He cautioned against emotional decision-making, urging Nigerians to consider building opportunities locally while still pursuing legitimate international exposure through education or short-term travel…….See More
