If You’re A Woman Contesting Election Against Me, I Can Bring Islamic Clerics To Go After You -Sani

Former senator Shehu Sani has said that politics in Nigeria is tough and often involves tactics aimed at weakening opponents, especially during elections. Speaking on the Honest Bunch Podcast, he explained that candidates should expect strong opposition, including the spread of negative stories, whether true or not.

He noted that young people who want change must go beyond protests and become actively involved in politics. Referring to the energy seen during the EndSARS protests, he said such passion should be redirected into contesting elections and gaining power.

Sani also described how political battles can take different forms depending on the situation. He pointed out that religion and social influence are sometimes used as tools to sway public opinion. For example, he explained that if a woman contests against a powerful opponent, that opponent might try to use religious leaders or community divisions to reduce her chances of success.

According to him, many young people do not fully understand how intense and strategic politics can be. He stressed that winning political power requires preparation, resilience, and awareness of the challenges involved.

In his words, “If you’re a woman in my constituency and you want to contest a member, House of Assembly, and I also want to be a member of the House of Assembly. And I know you are a woman, and I’m trying to see what I can do to bring you down. I can bring Islamic clerics to go after you. And then you’d be brought down.”…..See More
