Former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has disclosed that he played a central role in selecting the individuals who shaped former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration, revealing that he handled much of the political groundwork while Obasanjo was still transitioning out of prison.
Speaking in an interview with Arise TV, Atiku said, “President Obasanjo was just coming out of prison and I was doing most of the politicking. A lot of those people, in fairness, stood out, and they were people who had the capacity to take Nigeria from many years of rot under military rule to a completely different era.”
Atiku added that President Obasanjo gave him the opportunity to travel to the United States and Europe to personally headhunt and interview Nigerians living in the diaspora.
