In a recent interview with The Sun on Thursday, April 16, 2026, Moshood Oshun, a member of the House of Representatives representing Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency of Lagos State, has stated that insecurity is a global challenge that cannot be completely eliminated, urging Nigerians to view the issue with a broader perspective.
Speaking on the security situation under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Oshun explained that no country in the world has been able to fully eradicate crime or violent threats.
He noted that even advanced nations like the United Kingdom and the United States continue to experience cases of insecurity, including terrorist attacks, despite having sophisticated technology and strong security systems.
The lawmaker stressed that it would be unrealistic to expect Nigeria to achieve total security when more developed countries are still battling similar problems, he said insecurity should not be seen as a problem that can be solved once and for all, but rather one that must be constantly managed and reduced.
Oshun added that the responsibility of any government is to minimize crime and improve safety, not to promise complete elimination, according to him, the focus of the current administration is to bring insecurity down to the lowest possible level through sustained efforts and policies.
He maintained that blaming the president entirely for the persistence of insecurity does not reflect the global reality of security challenges, instead, he called for a more balanced assessment that takes into account the complex nature of crime and terrorism worldwide.
”The issue of insecurity is not something that can be eliminated once and for all. All over the world, even in the UK, US, we still hear of insecurity. We still hear of terrorism attacks. So nobody should blame President Bola Tinubu. It is like you saying crime can be eliminated,” he said…….See More
