In a recent statement via his official X account, former Nigerian senator Shehu Sani has reacted to ongoing concerns in Nigeria’s power sector, using strong language to describe the experience of electricity consumers.
”When the Discos tell you that your meter is not running well, they are about to bring a blood sucking Satan to your house,” he wrote.
In his post, Sani suggested that when electricity distribution companies inform customers that their meters are not functioning properly, it often signals the beginning of more serious billing issues and explained that many Nigerians have grown wary of such notifications from distribution companies, commonly known as Discos.
According to him, these situations are frequently followed by estimated billing or sudden increases in charges, he implied that consumers often feel trapped in a system that lacks transparency and fairness.
Shehu Sani noted that electricity users expect accurate metering and clear billing processes, however, he suggested that the reality on the ground is different, with many households complaining about unexplained charges and indicated that this has led to frustration among citizens who rely on electricity for daily living and business activities.
He further pointed out that the issue reflects broader challenges within Nigeria’s power sector, he said inefficiencies in metering, distribution, and regulation continue to affect service delivery, in his view, these problems have persisted despite reforms aimed at improving the industry.
