Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration, questioning its ability to address hunger and separate governance from politics.
Speaking during an interview on SYMFONI TV, Dalung challenged the description of Tinubu as a highly strategic politician. He argued that if the government had introduced the right agricultural policies over the past three years, many young Nigerians would have been engaged in farming and the country would not be facing widespread hunger.
Dalung said the administration should have established functional farms and created an effective national committee on food supply and security made up of credible Nigerians. According to him, such a body would have focused on ensuring food availability while allowing the president to concentrate on political activities.
He also accused the president of failing to distinguish between governance and politics, saying leadership requires working with everyone, including political opponents, in order to solve national problems.
Dalung pointed to former military president Ibrahim Babangida as an example of a leader who understood that approach. He urged Tinubu to study Babangida’s methods of handling national challenges, saying the former leader documented his experiences in a book.
According to Dalung, Babangida’s book offers lessons on governance and provides useful ideas for tackling the country’s challenges. He said the president should have someone read the book and explain its contents if necessary, insisting it contains practical guidance on dealing with difficult national issues.
