Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying the government has failed to address hunger despite being in office for three years.
Speaking during an interview on SYMFONI TV, Dalung questioned claims that Tinubu is a highly strategic politician. He argued that a strategic leader should have introduced policies capable of reducing hunger by now.
According to Dalung, the government could have expanded agriculture by encouraging young people to work on farms, increasing food production and making food more available across the country.
He also suggested that the administration should have created a strong national committee on food supply and security, led by credible Nigerians, to focus on solving food-related challenges. At the same time, the President concentrated on political matters.
Dalung accused Tinubu of failing to separate politics from governance. He argued that governing a country requires working with everyone, including political opponents, because national development should come before partisan interests.
The former minister pointed to former military president Ibrahim Babangida as an example, saying Babangida understood how to manage governance during difficult periods.
Dalung further urged Tinubu to study Babangida’s recently published memoir, saying the book explains how to handle national challenges. He said he had read the book himself and believed it offers lessons that could help the current administration tackle Nigeria’s pressing problems, especially hunger and food security.
