In a recent interview shared by Arise News, former US Army officer, Major Adebayo Adeleke, addressed concerns about the evolving security threats in Nigeria, particularly the reported collaboration between Lakurawa terrorists and Boko Haram.
He responded to questions on whether the United States has experience in handling such insurgent tactics, noting that American forces have recorded successes in similar conflicts, drawing from operations in Syria and Afghanistan.
Adeleke explained that while such wars are complex, the United States has developed sustained strategies over time to counter irregular warfare. However, he warned that the ongoing conflict involving Iran may be prolonged due to America’s tenacity and long-term approach to warfare.
Speaking on perceptions about Nigeria, he remarked, “Every time you go on TV and say something about Nigeria, people start looking at you strangely, like, ‘Why are you here?’”
On the issue of alleged Christian genocide in Nigeria, Adeleke offered a different perspective. He stated that discussions around such claims have circulated in policy circles in Washington but have not gained consensus. According to him, violence in Nigeria is not strictly religious, emphasizing that “the bullet doesn’t know if you are a Christian or a Muslim.”
