APC Loses More House Of Reps Members As Three Lawmakers Joins PRP, ADC Ahead Of 2027

Three members of the House of Representatives have reportedly left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a new wave of political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, according to Vanguard on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

The defections were formally announced during Wednesday’s plenary session, held shortly after lawmakers resumed from the Eid-el-Kabir break. The development reflects increasing political movement within the National Assembly as legislators reposition themselves ahead of the next election cycle.

One of the lawmakers, Rabilu Bala, representing Jama’are/Itas-Gadau Federal Constituency of Bauchi State, officially resigned from the APC and joined the PRP. His resignation letter was presented on the House floor by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.

In explaining his decision, Bala cited unresolved internal disputes within the APC as a major factor behind his departure. He added that his move was intended to enhance his ability to serve his constituents more effectively. He also said the decision followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders in his constituency, alongside dissatisfaction with developments at both state and national levels of the party.

In a separate move, Abubakar Zango, who represents the Yola North/Yola South/Girei Federal Constituency of Adamawa State, also exited the APC and joined the ADC. He explained that his defection was based on personal conviction and national interest, noting that he remains committed to effective representation regardless of party platform.

Similarly, another lawmaker, Abdullahi from Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency of Gombe State, also left the APC for the ADC.

These defections point to a growing pattern of political reshuffling among federal lawmakers as the 2027 elections approach. While the APC continues to maintain a majority in both chambers of the National Assembly, the recent exits have drawn attention to underlying tensions in several state party structures, including leadership disputes, succession struggles, and concerns over internal democracy.

Opposition parties argue that these developments reflect dissatisfaction within the ruling party, while APC officials maintain that the party remains stable and united…..See More
