According to a report by The Times of Israel on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, an anonymous member of the Knesset confirmed claims that coalition lawmakers were pressured to document their votes during the parliamentary election for Israel’s state comptroller.
The report, published by Channel 12 and cited in The Times of Israel liveblog, alleged that coalition members faced intense pressure to support Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s preferred candidate, attorney Michael Rabello, during the vote held in the Knesset.
The unnamed lawmaker reportedly said coalition members were asked to record themselves while casting their ballots as proof that they had voted in favor of Rabello. According to the MK, lawmakers experienced “tremendous pressure” ahead of the vote.
The report further stated that a senior coalition figure close to Netanyahu urged lawmakers to provide evidence of their support, reportedly telling them that doing so would “make the prime minister happy” and was important for “the dignity of the prime minister and the coalition.”
The allegations have sparked political controversy in Israel, particularly because parliamentary votes are generally expected to remain confidential. Claims that lawmakers were encouraged to film their ballots raised concerns among opposition figures, who questioned the integrity of the process.
According to the report, at least one coalition MK who had originally voted for Rabello’s rival, retired Supreme Court justice Yosef Elron, later changed their vote after coming under pressure to provide video proof of their ballot.
The claims prompted swift reactions from opposition lawmakers, who are reportedly considering legal action over the matter. Opposition parties are said to be calling for the vote to be invalidated and are planning to petition Israel’s High Court of Justice.
