According to a report by The Sun on Sunday, April 26, 2026, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, has dismissed the recent opposition political gathering held in Ibadan, describing it as an unstable arrangement that lacks the structure needed to influence the outcome of the 2027 general elections.
He made this position known while responding to discussions surrounding the summit, which has been widely interpreted by political actors as part of early efforts by opposition groups to build a stronger alliance ahead of the next election cycle.
Dare stated that the coalition emerging from the Ibadan meeting is built on weak foundations and does not reflect a unified political direction.
He explained that from his assessment, the arrangement appears to be driven more by convenience and political interest rather than a shared ideological commitment among the participating groups.
According to him, political alliances that are not based on clear principles and long-term coordination often struggle to survive under pressure, especially when faced with national-level electoral competition.
He further argued that the internal structure of the opposition coalition shows signs of division, which in his view reduces its ability to function as a strong political alternative.
He noted that disagreements among political actors within the alliance are already visible, suggesting that the grouping may find it difficult to present a consistent agenda to the electorate.
He added that such conditions make it challenging for any political formation to effectively compete against an established ruling party with an existing national structure.
Sunday Dare also commented on the broader implications of the opposition’s strategy, stating that whether the coalition eventually presents a single presidential candidate or multiple candidates, it would not significantly alter the political outcome in the next general election.
He explained that in his assessment, the effectiveness of a political platform is not determined solely by numbers or alliances, but by unity of purpose, discipline, and organizational strength.
He maintained that without these elements, political collaboration is unlikely to achieve meaningful impact.
The presidential aide described the Ibadan summit as a reflection of deeper fragmentation within opposition politics rather than a sign of consolidation.
He noted that the gathering exposed the differences that already exist among various political groups that are attempting to align ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to him, these differences highlight the absence of a coordinated national strategy capable of challenging the current administration.
He suggested that the event should be viewed within the context of ongoing political repositioning rather than as a fully formed electoral force.
Dare also expressed confidence in the performance and electoral prospects of President Bola Tinubu, stating that the administration’s record in governance would play a key role in shaping voter decisions in the next election.
He pointed to what he described as ongoing economic recovery efforts and policy initiatives as indicators of progress under the current leadership.
He argued that these developments have contributed to strengthening public trust in the government, despite the challenges faced in different sectors of the economy.
He further stated that the President’s leadership has provided a foundation for national recovery, emphasizing that governance achievements over the past years would remain a central factor in political discussions leading up to 2027.
According to him, the administration’s policies are designed to address structural issues within the economy, and these efforts would continue to reflect in the overall direction of national development.
He maintained that the government remains focused on implementing reforms aimed at long-term stability.
He said, “President Tinubu stands on solid ground; a resounding three-year performance that has set Nigeria on the course of recovery and a resilient economy. President Tinubu will secure a second term because he has earned it.”…….See More
