Even When Obi Was Clearly Incoherent, Rufai Didn’t Behave Like He Used To Do On Arise News -Lere Olayinka

Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant to Minister Nyesom Wike on Public Communications and New Media, has criticized the recent interview between journalist Rufai Oseni and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

In a post on his X handle on Thursday, June 18, 2026, Olayinka alleged that Oseni failed to elicit any empirical facts from the candidate during their conversation on the Nevon HQ podcast.

He also contrasted the interview with Oseni’s typical conduct on Arise News, asserting that the journalist refrained from his usual rigorous questioning style even when Obi’s responses appeared incoherent.

Olayinka wrote, “Throughout that his interview with Mr ONE SHOE alias AGBOTIKUYO, Rufai Oseni did not mention any empirical fact. Even when Pitobi was clearly incoherent, Rufai Oseni didn’t behave like he used to do on Arise News Morning Show.”

The interview, which has generated public discourse, covered a broad spectrum of national issues, including insecurity, economic policy, and political strategy.

When pressed by Oseni on how he would address Nigeria’s worsening security crisis, Obi stated that he would offer peace to those seeking it but would declare war against those who choose violence, affirming his personal readiness to die to secure the country’s stability.

Regarding economic concerns, Obi maintained that transforming Nigeria is not rocket science and promised to generate, transmit, and distribute 10,000 megawatts of electricity within four years if elected.

While Oseni pushed for technical details on how such targets would be achieved, Obi declined to provide an operational framework, arguing that voters should judge candidates based on their character and his track record as governor rather than on detailed policy breakdowns.

Also, the interview touched upon Obi’s history of exiting political parties, with the candidate defending his departures from the African Democratic Congress and the Labour Party as necessary actions taken when he found the internal environments to be hostile.
